Programs

Our play-based preschool programs are designed to nurture curiosity, creativity, and confidence in every child—from infants as young as 6 months to Kindergarteners aged 6 years.

Planning our curriculum

We are guided by our goals for each student. We have a clear image of what we aspire for every child to be when they graduate from a Playworks program, from their first encounter in our infants’ class to our Kindergarten class.

Each step contributes to a student’s growth into becoming a person with a lifelong love of learning through play, and a sense of responsibility to the community.

BABY PLAY

    Understanding your child

Our infant class helps promote bonding time between parent and child by playing together. Specially designed activities empower each infant to explore in a safe yet stimulating environment, and helps you manage your child’s newfound mobility and curiosity.

    What we offer

At this point, your child has mastered rolling over and sitting. He is crawling and perhaps pulling himself up to stand, grabbing everything within reach to either throw or put in his mouth.

These new skills highlight mobility and strength in your child, giving him the confidence to satisfy his curiosity and explore and discover independently. These simple experiences highlight the cause and effect of his actions,

ultimately serving as initial building blocks for higher learning.

    Understanding your child

Your child continues to observe more of his surroundings, only now he is standing and walking on two feet. His body is growing rapidly, and he needs exercise to work those muscles and learn to regulate his body’s movements

    What we offer

A 1-year-old is not expected to stay still for very long, since your child has the energy to run and climb all day. Our program focuses on sensory activities to hone your child’s five senses, in order to develop better coordination and body control and build his strength. This program also gives your child an opportunity to adjust to new people and to school.

    Understanding your child

During play, he starts to mimic things he sees around him, and activities and routines he does at home. The manner in which he handles toys for pretend play gives us an insight to what they already understand about the world.

He’s also learning to be more independent. He is learning to control his body movements, bodily functions, and figure out his surroundings. He’s also becoming more expressive, starting to string words together to express what he wants, likes or dislikes.

Exposing your child to more places, ideas and people are important in expanding their bank of knowledge

    What we offer

This stage of a child’s self-discovery often presents a number of behavioral challenges. This is why our Toddler Class focuses on helping toddlers express themselves. Our activities promote not only verbal expression, but expression of ideas and feelings through movement, dramatic play, art and music. It is our goal that once your child completes our preschool program, he will have developed his social and emotional skills, which are important as he moves to a larger school community in his primary school years, as well as:

    • Be able to listen and speak with understanding
    • Understand and use language to create meaning and to communicate ideas through reading and writing.
    • Make sense and apply math concepts in everyday life

NURSERY

  •

    Understanding your child

The connections your child made during his earlier years can now be expressed verbally, enriching your conversations. He understands new concepts in rapid speed. This is the year your child now engages in conversation with you and others.

Your child enjoys pretend play at this stage. He learns social rules, with knowing the words “please” and “thank you”, and the concept of taking turns and sharing have new meaning. You begin to see him play (and fight!) with others. He is learning to identify his emotions, while struggling to self-regulate them.

    What we offer

Our Nursery Class focus heavily on assisting the child in managing social situations and become more independent. Our activities help your child understand that not only does he have power over his environment, but that others do as well.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN

  •

    Understanding your child

Your child continues to question the world and is eager to demonstrate his ideas. At this stage, the problem solver in your child emerges, drawing from his own experiences and memories to apply to new situations. He is quick to assert his desire to do things on his own, and strongly dislikes being called a baby.

There is also a heightened sense of fairness among children. His world is colored by new friendships, but he still stumbles when it comes to relating with others and balancing his rights and those of his peers.

    What we offer

Our Pre-Kindergarten class channels your child’s inquisitive nature and guides them toward discovering the answers for themselves. While the social and emotional aspects are strongly emphasized in this level, their cognitive development is also strengthened.

KINDERGARTEN

    Understanding your child

He has a mind of his own and his own circle of friends. He still plays with toys, builds with blocks and role-plays – but this time with a greater sense of cooperation and competition among peers. Your child is eager to please and be accepted. He may have even mastered the art of negotiation with friends, and with you for more time in the park and less time napping!

Your child embraces responsibilities given to him. Presenting him with challenges – academically and physically – develops his confidence if he is able to overcome them

    What we offer

The focus of Kindergarten Class is to prepare kids for Grade 1, where most children move on to larger elementary schools. Reading, writing, addition and subtraction. These are covered in depth at a pace your child can manage.

There is a greater emphasis on academics without neglecting the other areas of a child’s development. We still learn through play and exploration, and encourage imagination and creativity, but by giving five-year-olds the

structure they crave, preparing them for new adventures and experiences in elementary school.
